I love roses. I just can’t get enough of them. yes, they are work…these beautiful plants are subject to fungi and nasty critters; they need to be pruned, deadheaded and given ample amounts of manure in order to display their best. I think it’s worth it.

This Sunday, along with others, mainly our friend Roberto who also grows lavender, we’re organizing a Lavender Festival at our beautiful local castle, the Rocca Montevarmine.

Our lavender plants are young. We planted them in summer 2009. That’s another story for another day…

Lavender grows to its full size in about 3 years, so last summer (2011) they were only 2 years old, and fully mature. Regardless, they yielded an amazingly large quantity of flowers!

Chrysanthemums
